It?s a story about falling in love, about a man and the tangible wild countryside. He discovered a vineyard here on the banks of the Thau lagoon and was determined to harness all his building skills and enthusiasm for wine into creating Domaine de Belle Mare. But it?s also the story of a chance meeting with Fabienne Capello who he entrusted with the estate?s future. Her Latino roots and Southern charm come across very naturally in her wines? personality. Agricultural engineer and talented winemaker, she spent over 10 years improving quality standards at a few big wine broking companies. She had many different roles in the business here, which now let her take complete control of expanding the estate and hence relish the challenges it throws up. Domaine de Belle Mare now covers 68 hectares around the Thau lagoon. 45ha are planted with vines with all the typical Languedoc varieties: the one-and-only Picpoul, Cinsault, Syrah and Grenache. They?ve also planted more international varieties such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon as well as more unusual ones like Roussanne, Muscat petits grains and Viognier.
