Location
Description
The Villars cave is the largest underground network in the Périgord. Rainwater percolation created a beautiful natural scenery: calcite deposits, stalactites and stalagmites, and translucent draperies. Prehistoric paintings made about 19 000 years ago were discovered in 1958. Some of them, such as the horses fresco, are covered with a thin layer of calcite which gives them their particular bluish hue.
