Deep in the wooded valley of the Thar, Lucerne Abbey was founded in 1143.
Since 1959, for the third time in its history, this exceptional building has benefited from a remarkable preservation and restoration program to offer one of the finest example of medieval Premonstratensian architecture.
Classified as a ‘Historic Monument’ in 1928, the abbey is striking in both its intimacy and its powerful sense of history led by passionate people. Its emotional feeling comes from the utter simplicity of its architecture, from its great luminosity and from the preserved authenticity of its environment.
Your admission fees for entrance contribute to the
preservation of the abbey by supporting the "Fondation Abbaye de La Lucerne d'Outremer", owner, who manages and finances the reception of the public, the maintenance of the buildings and the site as well as the restoration.
