Open to the public since 1995, the Departmental Museum of Seine-et-
Marne is located in Saint-Cyr-sur-Morin, 8 km from La Ferté-sous-Jouarre and 15 km from Coulommiers.
The museum was born from a departmental conservation of ethnography created in 1976 and the purchase of a former inn in 1987. The former hotel was transformed and enlarged by the architect Pierre Mougin, and the museography created by Pierre-Yves Catel and Olivier Schimmenti. In 2011, the museum became the Departmental Museum of
Seine et Marne.
Since then, an educational garden has been set up in addition to the permanent exhibition.
Located in the rural setting of the Petit-Morin valley, this museum of society and the Seine-et-Marnais region also evokes the writer Pierre Mac Orlan (1882 – 1970) whose house in the hamlet of Archets can also be visited.
