Visit a masterpiece of middle age military architecture. The oldest and best fortified Norman castle, preserved thanks to a remarkable restoration project, that was started in 1966 by Abbot Marcel LELEGARD (1925-1994).
Built in the XII century on an island surrounded by three moats and five defensive gates which open out on several buildings, the bakery, the cider press, the chapel, the court room (which contains the Pirou Tapestry exhibition), the old lodge
(guardroom, dining room and kitchen) the stairway leading to the wall-walk and its schist roofing.
Be amazed by the fabulous legend of the Pirou Geese, return to the middle ages and discover nine centuries of history.
Your admission fees for entrance contribute to the preservation of the castle by supporting the
"Fondation Abbaye de La Lucerne d'Outremer", owner, who manages and finances the reception
of the public, the maintenance of the buildings and the site as well as the restoration.
